Using a combination of established resources and innovative interactive media, this event takes participants on a virtual field trip to a site of biodiversity interest on the north Antrim coast. Here they will explore the physical environmental processes that structure the communities of intertidal organisms, vertical zonation due to desiccation, exposure and wave stress. Join our experts as they deploy a variety of innovative methods and artifacts used for monitoring in the marine environment. 

This event is being hosted in conjunction with the Steinbeck Festival in Limavady, to celebrate the role that marine ecology played in influencing John Steinbeck’s writing through his work and personal relationship with scientist Ed Ricketts. The event is launched on February 26th to coincide with the anniversary of Steinbeck's birthday 119 years ago on February 27th in 1902.

The idea is that participants would explore the resources and artifacts in the morning and then drop into the live webinar Q&A in the afternoon (14:00-15:00 UTC) to discuss. 

The panellists on the webinar will be with two of the faculty from Ulster University - Chris McGonigle School of Geography and Environmental Sciences and Willa Murphy from the School of Arts and Humanities.
